CALL TO ACTION! Join us at The State House!

The HBRAMA has organized a “Builders Lobby Day” at the State House in Boston on Thursday, June 7th from 9:30 to 11:30 AM. The purpose of this event is to lobby for passage of House Bill No. 4290, An Act to Promote Housing Choices. This legislation was filed by Governor Charlie Baker and has the strong support of the HBRAMA, as well as NAIOP–The Commercial Real Estate Association, the Greater Boston Real Estate Board and the Massachusetts Association of Realtors.

House Bill No. 4290 would amend the state’s Zoning Act (G.L. c. 40A) to make it easier for cities and towns to adopt pro-housing and pro-development zoning changes. It would do so by reducing the required vote of a city council or town meeting from 2/3rds to a simple majority.

There will also be lobbying in support of House Bill No. 4092, however, we will be lobbying in strong opposition to so-called Zoning Reform being put forward by the Massachusetts Smart Growth Alliance. This organization is calling for passage of amendments to the Zoning Act that would actually make it more difficult and expensive to build housing
