July 27, 2020
HBRAMA received the below notice from National Grid yesterday and we wanted to quickly make you aware that if you are working in any of the towns listed in the notice and need natural gas service prior to 12/31/20, you should contact your National Grid representative immediately. HBRAMA is aware that these service cut-offs due to high demand occur annually, and is working with the utilities and the Department of Public Utilities to minimize these occurrences in the future.

To our customers, residential builders and developers:

Due to high customer demand for new gas services, effective July 24, 2020, National Grid will stop taking requests for new residential gas services that require installation by this winter (November 2020), in certain cities and towns. New residential gas services include gas heating conversions, connections for new construction, and line upgrades for customers adding new natural gas appliances.

This necessary step is specific to the following cities and towns: Burlington, Charlestown, Chelsea, East Boston, Everett, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Reading, Revere, Somerville, Stoneham, Wakefield, Winchester, Winthrop and Woburn. Beginning July 24, 2020, National Grid’s Gas Customer Connections team will begin taking requests for new residential gas services to be installed in spring/summer 2021, when our construction season begins. This does not apply to other cities and towns in Massachusetts.

Our connections process begins with a phone call to 1-877-MYNGRID (877-696-4743). Following your call, we will connect you with your designated Gas Customer Connections Representative and Field Inspector. Please reach out to your Gas Customer Connections Representative with service line agreements and questions regarding your project’s status. Please include certified plot plans with service line agreements.

National Grid will continue to take all customer requests for service cut-offs for demolitions and service meter relocations. For demolitions, all gas line cut-offs must be done at the main to comply with the state code, and permits are necessary. The state code is available here Please call or email your Gas Customer Connections Representative well in advance of a needed gas cut-off for demolition.

We understand this may impact your business and your tight construction timeline, and we appreciate your cooperation.

Sincerely,

National Grid Customer Connections Team
